The Villans have secured the signing of defender Calum Chambers from Arsenal on a three-and-a-half year contract. The Birmingham club has been on a spending spree this month, and the fee involved in the transfer of Chambers remains undisclosed.

The England international became the fifth signing for Villa in the winter transfer window and they have been reinforcing the squad according to new manager Steven Gerrard’s demands.

Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne, Robin Olsen and Kerr Smith had already been signed by the club to support their aspirations as they continue to push higher in the table.

Chambers has now arrived on a three-and-a-half years contract for an undisclosed fee. His’ contract at Arsenal was expiring in June, so it’s quite possible that the fee exchanged between the two clubs is quite nominal. Chambers had signed for the Gunners in 2014 and went on to make 124 appearances across all tournaments. He had also spent time on loan at Middlesbrough and Fulham.

The full-back has struggled for game time and has mostly been relegated to the bench this season. He had made only five appearances (two in the Premier League) this season and had fallen down in the pecking order following the arrivals of Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

“It’s a massive club and they’re in a great moment. It’s a very exciting place to be and everyone can see that from the outside. Things are happening here and it’s definitely moving in the right direction. For me, it was a no-brainer to join a great club. It was the right thing for me to do.”

Chambers stated that he is looking forward to working with Gerrard:

“The manager did very well at Rangers. He’s a young, exciting manager and I can’t wait to work with him,” he signed off.

He also took on Twitter to thank the Arsenal fans for their support.

The 27-year-old is likely to replace Axel Tuanzebe, who signed for Napoli after his contract with Manchester United expired earlier this month.
