Juventus head coach, Andrea Pirlo, is under immense public scrutiny following a disappointing first season. The Bianconeri are drawing up a three-man shortlist to replace him.
According to La Republica’s report, Turin-based has drawn up a three-man shortlist to replace the under-fire Andrea Pirlo. The former Bianconeri star is under pressure after yet another defeat in the league, this time against Filippo Inzaghi’s Benevento. His team are currently ten points off league leaders Inter Milan and face the prospect of losing their Serie A crown for the first time in ten years.
The report claims that the three names shortlisted by the Italian giants are Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini, Lazio’s Simone Inzaghi, and former Inter and Roma boss Luciano Spalletti. Furthermore, the rumour also suggests that the Bianconeri do not have enough money to convince Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola to take the job in Turin.
Pirlo’s role as the head coach of Juventus is not safe anymore, despite the Italian returning to the club last summer. Recent results have dented the team’s title retention hopes, while an embarrassing UEFA Champions League exit to Porto has made things even worse. Despite that, the club is not considering sacking Pirlo mid-season, and any decision is expected to be made once it concludes. Nevertheless, should their performances not improve, the rookie manager will face the sack, with his assistant Igor Tudor taking the reins on an interim basis until June.
Another name linked with the job is that of Massimiliano Allegri. The ex-Juventus boss is currently without a job ever since stepping down from his hot seat in Turin back in 2019. However, a potential stumbling block in his return could be his relationships with some members of the top brass, including Pavel Nedved and Fabio Paratici.
Pirlo will be given time to save his job, provided he navigates through five crucial games without much difficulty. The five games in question are Juventus’ remaining league ties against Torino, Atalanta, Napoli, Inter, and AC Milan. The Old Lady is also due to play Atalanta in the Coppa Italia final this season.
