Liverpool might have to dip in the transfer market this summer to replace key first-team star Georginio Wijnaldum. Reports suggest that the Reds are lining up a surprise move for one former Arsenal player.
According to a report by Calciomercato, Liverpool are among the clubs looking to sign Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey this summer. The ex-Arsenal star has become surplus to requirements in Turin and could find his way back to the Premier League once the transfer window is open.
Ramsey joined Juventus in Summer 2019 from Arsenal after the expiration of his contract. However, the Welshman currently finds himself outside the starting eleven, with Weston McKennie, Arthur, and Rodrigo Bentancur ahead of him in the pecking order. The midfielder, as a result, has been linked with a move back to his former club. Meanwhile, the report also claims that Liverpool and West Ham United are among his suitors, should he decide to call time on his Serie A stint.
Despite Ramsey’s poor run for the Bianconeri, head coach Andrea Pirlo has thrown his support behind the Welshman.
In the past, he has had major problems that have kept him away from the pitch for months,
Pirlo claimed.
He is precious because he knows how to make the team play well and he plays well. He has only this physical weakness that forces him to stay out every now and then.
Liverpool are expected to be on the lookout for another central midfielder in the upcoming summer window, despite signing Thiago from Bayern Munich last season. The Reds could be forced to spend money on reinforcements if Georginio Wijnaldum decides to leave the club in the coming months.
The Dutchman will be a free agent after the current season’s conclusion, having failed to reach a contract extension at Anfield. Reports have claimed that he has already signed a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona, who his compatriot, Ronald Koeman, currently coaches.
Wijnaldum joined Liverpool in 2016 following a single season at Newcastle United, at the end of which the Magpies were relegated to the Championship. He has since gone on to play over two hundred games for Jurgen Klopp’s side and has won both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League titles.
