The Gunners are looking for reinforcements in the middle of the park; the Gunners are eyeing a move for Lille star Renato Sanches. Meanwhile, AC Milan are hopeful of getting a cut-price deal for Nicolas Pepe, who has failed to live up to expectations so far.
Arsenal’s much-maligned summer spend looks better day by day. Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale, and Takehiro Tomiyasu have been integrated fully into the starting eleven – and the team looks better for it – while Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga have shown signs of potential off the bench. Still, there are areas of improvement within the squad, especially in the midfield department – an area which the Gunners are hoping to strengthen by signing Lille’s Renato Sanches.
The Portuguese has successfully reinstated his reputation as one of the best young midfielders out there after disastrous spells at Bayern Munich and Swansea City. The midfielder helped Lille win the French domestic title last season and won his place back into the national team squad for the European Championship. Interest in the central midfielder has piqued during recent windows, Arsenal among a host of clubs keen on his services.
As per Le10Sport, Arsenal have contacted Sanches’ representatives ahead of a potential January move. The Gunners, however, are facing competition from AC Milan, who – unlike the North London club – have made an offer for the Portuguese international. The two are expected to go head-to-head for Sanches’ services once the window re-opens in a month-and-a-half.
The Sanches front is not the only one in which Arsenal are facing a challenge from AC Milan. The Rossoneri are also keen on signing Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe, who signed for the Gunners for a club-record fee in summer 2019. The Ivorian has failed to hit the lofty expectations set by his price tag and, despite nearing two-and-a-half years at the club, continues to move in and out of the first eleven.
Milan, as per Il Milanista, are poised to make a move for Pepe in the January 2022 transfer window. They believe that they can agree to a cut-price deal for the Ivorian – whom Arsenal could be prepared to sell for as low a fee as 25 million pounds.
