Christopher Nkunku has been the one shining light for RB Leipzig in an otherwise gloomy start to the season. Jesse Marsch’s team is currently eighth in the table – and in the ascendancy – having won three and lost three of their seven games so far. Nkunku, however, has been in sensational form during the early weeks of the campaign: he has scored and assisted 11 goals in 10 appearances across all competitions.
Nkunku’s form has been noticed across Europe, and some of the continent’s top clubs are lining up to secure his services. As per FootMercato, Chelsea have joined the race to sign the French attacker, along with Premier League rivals Manchester City and European heavyweights Real Madrid. Reports in previous weeks have also linked the youngster with a return to Paris Saint-Germain as well as a move across the league to Bayern Munich.
FootMercato states that the player’s agent Pini Zahavi is keen to move his client to a top European club. Zahavi has a good relationship with Real Madrid after the club signed another one of his clients David Alaba this summer. Meanwhile, Los Blancos are also keen on Nkunku, whom they are planning to sign next summer.
Premier League side Chelsea are interested in the player, too. Nkunku’s former coach Thomas Tuchel is currently in charge of the Blues. The attacker enjoyed his best spell in PSG colors under the German tactician before sealing a move to RB Leipzig in 2019. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s league rivals Man City are also thought to be keen on the Frenchman. Nkunku hit a hat-trick against the Citizens in their opening group game of the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League season.
Since joining Leipzig in summer 2019, Nkunku has played 94 times, scored 21, and assisted 23 goals. The 23-year-old has already surpassed his best-ever goal tally for the club this season by netting nine times in 10 games.
