Ex-South Africa batsman will be the man behind the stumps for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2021, the club’s official confirmed.
Although RCB have a plethora of options at the wicket-keeping positions such as Mohammed Azharuddeen, KS Bharat and Finn Allen, it is believed that whenever de Villiers has kept wickets, it has provided a good balance for the team.
We were delighted with the fact that Ab de Villiers loved wicket-keeping and he embraced it. He wanted to continue doing it, he is a real option, we now have a couple of other wicket-keeping options which is great. Mohammed Azharuddeen is a natural athlete with gloves and in the field,
said Mike Hesson.
We also have KS Bharat, he is a natural keeper, gives us different options as well. We are not going to make the commitment now to you guys as to who will do what. We are really pleased with the options we have got and AB is certainly one of those,
he added.
AB de Villiers, arguably one of the best players in the IPL history, has represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore since 2011.
IPL 2020, held in the UAE, saw RCB finish fourth on the points table before being knocked out by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the eliminator.
One of the positives of the 2020 campaign was that de Villiers enjoyed keeping wickets and emerged as a full-time wicketkeeper.
RCB will begin preparations for the league on March 29. AB de Villiers is expected to arrive at the training camp on March 28.
