Hamid Shinwari has mentioned his future aspirations regarding Afghanistan Cricket. With the political turbulence disrupting the country, Afghanistan currently fear the possibility of getting isolated by other nations, to follow in the footsteps of Australia.
Cricket Australia have already raised suspicions over the materialization of the one-off Test these sides were about to play in Hobart. CA have stated that if Afghanistan continue to not support women’s cricket as reports are suggesting, they will not keep any cricketing ties with the country.
With an ambition to avoid a scenario where more of the big countries follow Australia, ACB chief executive Shinwari wishes to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with England. He also mentioned that this will boost their youngsters significantly.
“We plan on visiting the UK next year and hopefully sign an MOU with Afghanistan to play regular series with an international team (in England). This would give us a big boost and support the youth of Afghanistan,”
Shinwari was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.
Our women cricketers want to develop: Shinwari
Shinwari also tried to eradicate the doubts the cricketing world has against Afghanistan. He said that they intend to develop women’s cricket and offer them all facilities within their capabilities to help them grow. He also mentioned that they can play as long as their cultural requirements are met.
“Our women players are still here – they have not left Afghanistan, most are in Kabul or the other provinces. We want to build girls cricket, we are committed to building facilities, so they can play as long as our cultural requirements are met,”
he added.
Afghanistan had qualified for the T20 World Cup directly and will be seen in the Super 12 stages, where they are placed alongside India, New Zealand and Pakistan, alongside two other qualifying teams.
Their campaign kicks off on October 25, where they will face off against the winner of Group B, consisting of Namibia, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Ireland.
