The German midfielder was linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid during the summer, but ultimately he decided to put pen to paper on a five-year deal.
After joining from Schalke in 2018, Goretzka has helped the Bavarians win the treble in 2019 under the tutelage of Hansi Flick. He has also forged a fantastic partnership in midfield with compatriot Joshua Kimmich, making him one of the most influential figures among the Bayern faithful.
Goretzka’s fresh terms are expected to be worth between €12million and €15million. When quizzed about his contract extension, Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann said:
“Of course I have talked to him about my plans for him. I’ve told him I’d be happy if he extended and I’m also confident.”
The 26-year-old was also delighted to sign a new contract with Bayern. He highlighted how he has already won everything with the club but wants to achieve them again.
“The team, the club and the environment are not only highly professional but also familiar. This mixture is one of the guarantors of success at this club. I am very happy that I was able to extend my contract early until 2026.”
he told the club’s official website.
Goretzka has already grown in stature since joining Bayern winning three Bundesliga titles, two DfB Pokals, three DFL SuperCups and a Champions League title in 2020.
