ISL outfit Kerala Blasters announced the signing of their penultimate foreign player Marko Leskovic. The Croatian defender completes their foreign quota for the upcoming ISL season.
Leskovic has over 150 appearances in the Croatian top division and will be an important piece on the jigsaw for manager Ivan Vukomanovic. The centre-back started his career at NK Osijek and gradually grew in stature before making his senior debut for the Croatian outfit.
He later signed a four-year contract with HNK Rijeka where he impressed everyone and guided the club to the group stages of the UEFA Europa League. The 30-year-old then jumped ship to join Dinamo Zagreb in 2016. But he was later loaned out to NK Lokomotiva in January 2020.
In time at Dinamo, Leskovic has won three consecutive Croatian league titles. He also bagged two Croatian Cups, once with Zagreb in the 2017-18 season and once with Rijeka back in the 2013-14 season.
Predominantly a centre-back, Leskovic can also slot in as a defensive midfielder. He has also represented Croatia at all the youth levels and has also made four appearances for the Croatian national team proving his worth to the team. He made his debut for the senior national team in 2014 against Argentina.
‘Lešković is a high-level defender who has come to Kerala Blasters with high motivation to perform well. I’m happy that we finalized this deal and finished recruitment for the upcoming season. I wish Marko all the best this season.’
said Karolis Skinkys, Sporting Director, KBFC.
Leskovic joins the South Indian outfit as their last foreign player for the upcoming ISL season. Earlier, they have signed Enes Sipovic (CB, Bosnia & Herzegovina), Adrian Luna (ATM, Uruguay), Chencho Gyeltshen (LW, Bhutan) and Alvaro Vazquez (FW, Spain). Leskovic will join the rest of the team in Kolkata soon, where they are participating in the Durand Cup.
