Ronald Koeman’s men slumped to their third straight loss at Camp Nou in UEFA Champions League fixtures, previously losing to Juventus and PSG 3-0 and 4-,1, respectively. The Catalans turned up against the Bavarians on Tuesday as the reigning Bundesliga champions hammered the hosts 3-0.
The 3-5-2 system did not pay out for Koeman as it almost looked like Barcelona surrendered the game in the first half. The lack of intensity was visible in the Blaugrana players as they hardly pressed Bayern Munich, failing to take advantage of their high line. But it can also be argued that it was part of a tactic that obviously did not work out.
“Playing at home, it is a bad result, we are not going to fool ourselves. But if you look at the game, I think that in the first half we have competed, they have gone ahead with a deflected goal.
“In the end, I don’t know how many 18-year-olds we had on and the team has competed and has shown their face.
Now we are who we are, we are what we are, but I am convinced that as we recover players, we will end up competing.”
Gerard Pique was quoted as saying by Marca.
The 34-year-old also said that we was hurt about the fact that Sergi Roberto who was booed by the crowd whilst being substituted.
Pique confirmed that Roberto is not a winger, and playing as a winger was a sacrifice.
Barcelona will take on Granada in their next La Liga fixture (September 20) and will hope to put on a much better show to regain confidence before facing Benfica in the Champions League on September 30.
