Danish midfielder has returned to Internazionale Suning Training Centre for a meeting with the club officials. Eriksen, who spearheaded the Denmark side at the European Championships, collapsed at the football pitch in his nation’s opener at the Euros 2020 against Finland.
It was a shocking turn of events when Eriksen simply fell down on the ground while the game was going on. The referee immediately stopped play, and after a lot of prayers and great effort from the medical staff, the 29-year-old was resuscitated before he was taken to the hospital.
The incident meant that Eriksen had to sit out the entire tournament and saw his nation qualify for the semifinals at the continental stage.
While there are several doubts over Eriksen’s return, the Nerazzurri are assured that the Danish midfielder will go through their well-planned recovery programme. The reigning Serie A champions recently released a statement that read,
“The Danish midfielder met the club directors, the coach, team-mates and all of the staff present. Eriksen is doing well and is in excellent physical and mental shape.
“He will now follow the recovery programme put forward by Danish doctors in Copenhagen, who will also co-ordinate the clinical follow-up. The Inter medical staff will naturally be kept informed and up to date throughout the process.”
There are no guarantees that the 29-year-old midfielder will return to action as the Nerazzurri will have to be very careful with his situation.
Following his cardiac arrest at the Euros 2020, Eriksen was fitted with an ICD. It is a heart-starting device that will aid him in his heart condition. But until his ICD is removed, he won’t be able to play for Inter.
The Serie A side will start their upcoming season without Eriksen, but they will hope that the Dane gets back on the pitch again. The Denmark international joined Inter in the January transfer window in 2020 after leaving Tottenham Hotspur.
He was one of the pivotal players in Antonio Conte’s historic Serie A winning side. He featured in 26 appearances in the Italian league and netted three goals but was mainly vested with the responsibility to initiate buildups and be the creative nucleus of the Nerazzurri.
