Three-time IPL champions will change their training location to prepare for the 2021 season. Some of the players, including captain MS Dhoni, had started preparations for the upcoming league in Chennai from around the 10th of March.
The Chennai Super Kings were the first team to start preparations for the IPL 2021 this year. They are expected to be desperate about making amends after a thoroughly disappointing campaign last year in the UAE, which saw them finish seventh on the points table, only ahead of the Rajasthan Royals.
The MS Dhoni-led side will move to Mumbai on March 26 and put up at the Trident Hotel. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the date as well.
No team would have home advantage this year as per the new rules made by the IPL Governing Council. Since CSK would be playing five of their matches at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, it definitely makes sense to shift base there to help them get used to and understand the conditions better.
Remarkably, Dhoni has introduced a new training method, ‘match simulations’, which helps the team manage different situations that occur during any game.
The CSK unit will also be strengthened by the return of veteran all-rounder Suresh Raina. After missing out on the tournament last year due to personal reasons, Raina is all set to play for the team in yellow this year. He will join the side directly in Mumbai on the 26th of March.
The Super Kings will begin their IPL campaign on the 10th of April against last season’s runner ups – Delhi Capitals. The team is not used to losing, having won the coveted IPL title 3 times, and they will definitely want to come roaring back and claim their fourth title this year.
