Chelsea are looking to improve on their Champions League campaign from last season. The Blues are reportedly eager to bring in reinforcements this summer, and they are especially looking to improve their attacking options by signing Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.
The Blues tried their best to lure away Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland. But their biggest problem has been the astronomical asking fee of £150million. The Black and Yellows are adamant about holding their young sensation for at least another season as they have already lost Jadon Sancho, who reached an agreement with Manchester United.
According to reports in England, BVB have turned towards Lewandowski but will face a tough negotiation with the German champions. But the Chelsea management are eager to fight until the end for the Polish marksman and hand Thomas Tuchel the forward he needs in his current setup. They are all set to come up with a hefty £50million bid to lure away the record goalscorer.
The 32-year-old striker’s current contract runs out in 2023 and the Bavarians want him to sign a new contract extension. Lewandowski broke Gerd Muller’s legendary record of highest Bundesliga goals by netting 41 goals last season in the German league.
The Bavarians are in no mood to sell their most prized possession, but they are still not sure if Lewandowski will sign a new contract or not. Losing one of the best players in the world will undoubtedly be a huge blow for Julian Nagelsmann and his men.
Apart from Chelsea, Manchester City are also linked with the 32-year-old prolific striker as they look to replace club legend Sergio Aguero. However, sources suggest that the Citizens are more interested in bringing Harry Kane than the Bayern Munich striker.
Chelsea do have the financial resources to test Bayern’s patience. The German Champions are also not in great shape financially, and with little time left in Lewandowski’s contract, they may very well look to cash in on the goalscorer. Lewandowski will soon turn 33, and this can be Bayern’s last big shot at earning a big-money move for the Poland international.
The Blues have already allowed forward Olivier Giroud to join AC Milan and Tammy Abraham is likely to follow the French striker. So Tuchel will be left with Timo Werner, who has shown promise and will only get better in his second season in England. But the German tactician feels that Lewandowski can be a very viable option for Chelsea this summer.
