According to various outlets, Manchester United are interested in Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. The French midfielder is one of the sought-after teenagers in Europe. Therefore, United are looking to pounce on him just after finalizing the deal with Jadon Sancho.
The Red Devils are all set to meet Camavinga’s representatives to discuss plans to bring him to Old Trafford. Camavinga can be the ideal fit for the Red Devils. He can provide balance and control to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield. It will allow the likes of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes to play with more freedom.
However, some people feel that the interest in Camavinga may also mean that the Red Devils have given up on Pogba. There were much news regarding Pogba’s future and the French international has not cleared anything yet. Hence United are making their stance clear by holding talks with Camavinga as a replacement for his 28-year-old compatriot.
The French youngster is entering the last year of his current contract with Rennes and hence United are eager to rope in the highly-rated midfielder. He can be the ideal recruitment for the Red Devils especially when they are looking for a deep-lying midfielder.
United were strongly linked with West Ham’s defensive midfielder Declan Rice but their high asking price meant that the Red Devils were forced to look at alternatives. According to Whoscored, the 18-year old’s primary strength lies in his tackling and ball retention. Camavinga is defensively strong and uses his big physical presence to retrieve and protect the ball. While a lot of people tout him to be the next Pogba, but Camavinga is of a different mould. He is an excellent passer and has the instincts to start an attacking buildup but defence holds the key for the youngster.
While he does not come up with many goals or assists but he plays a vital role in the buildup and also in controlling the tempo of the game. Despite his tender age, it is his physicality and defensive traits that make him ideal for the Premier League.
With all said and done, United will have to break the bank to win the race to sign the talented midfielder. Camavinga is monitored by most of the top clubs in Europe and none of them will allow him to join Manchester United without a fight. Some reports in France also claim that Paris Saint Germain are also interested in the youngster whereas Real Madrid have been very vocal about their interest in the Frenchman. So it remains to be seen whether he dons the Manchester United jersey this summer or not.
