United have been one of the busiest teams in Europe in this summer transfer campaign. But United boss is not ruling out any surprise transfer as the transfer window comes to a close.
The Red Devils have finally managed to tie up a deal with long term favourite Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. Following that deal, they have also signed former Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane. The four-time Champions League winner is all set to partner Harry Maguire who also guided England to the finals of the Euros 2020.
When quizzed on United’s recruitment plan for this summer, Solskjaer told Sky Sports:
“You never know what’s going to happen in football.
“Of course we have still got one hopefully coming in [Varane] and any surprises, anything can happen, we have got to be ready. But I’m very happy with what we’ve done so far.”
Manchester United finished second in the Premier League 2020-21, only behind Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. The Norwegian is happy with the overall progress of the team, the players and the staff but he now wants the Red Devils to start winning trophies.
“That is what we are here for at Manchester United. I’m used to winning. When I was here as a player, we finished third once and was either first or second every other year.
“We know we are in the most intense and competitive league in the world, and we have to be at the top of our games from game one to 38 to have a chance of winning the Premier League.”
The Norwegian tactician wants his players to be at par with teams like City and Chelsea if they intend to win the Premier League title this season. The Red Devils are looking to bolster their midfield as Paul Pogba’s future still hangs in the balance.
The French midfielder may leave the club in future, and for that, United have lined up a few alternatives.
Stade Rennais midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in European football. The 18-year-old has already featured for the France senior side and can be a huge asset for Les Blues in future. Therefore Solskjaer’s interest in the Frenchman is very natural.
Brighton’s Yves Bissouma has emerged as one of the most underrated midfielders in the Premier League over the last couple of years. Wolves star Ruben Neves has also emerged as a favourite for the Red Devils. The Portugal international can provide great control in midfield and has great disruptive and ball-playing skills.
Another surprise target for United could be Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez. The Rojiblancos have already signed the 2021 Copa America winner Rodrigo De Paul. The former Udinese midfielder’s inclusion at Wanda Metropolitano means that Saul has gone down the pecking order for Diego Simeone. The Atletico Madrid outcast can very well be on his way out of the Spanish capital, with United reportedly considering a move for the Spanish midfielder.
