Chelsea clinched the title after beaing Villareal on penalties due to the heroics of Kepa Arrizabalaga. But apart from the Spanish goalkpeer, young defender Trevoh Chalobah caught everyone’s eyes with a stellar performance on a big night.
The 22-year-old was impressive playing at the heart of the defence. He featured for Chelsea throughout extra time and played a pivotal role in a crunch match. When quizzed whether Chalobah is ready to feature in the Premier League or not, Tuchel told reporters,
“Absolutely that’s why he played.”
“He played good against Arsenal and he played a good game also against Bournemouth, then Arsenal, then Tottenham.
We wanted to have guys on the field who are capable of playing 90 minutes.
Trevoh was first in training, the very first in training and is physically strong and deserved to play by his performances so far and again today he was very strong.”
The German has also lauded his ability to not crumble under pressure and claimed that seniors like Cesar Azpilicueta and Jorginho helped the youngster in the tactical organisation.
Chalobah has left so much impact with his performances that Tuchel is not contemplating whether to loan him out or keep him at Stamford Bridge for this season.
His impressive performances in the pre-season saw Valencia approach the Blues in a loan deal for the 22-year-old defender. Chalobah spent the entire last season on loan at Lorient in Ligue 1, and now it looks like he will move to Spain. But after his performance against Villareal, Tuchel may have to rethink his plans.
The Blues are also looking to sign a new centre-back, as they look to weigh their chances to rope in Sevilla defender Jules Kounde. But Sevilla’s high asking fee for the Frenchman have stalled the talks between the two clubs.
