The Nerazzuri have begun their rebuild thanks to the massive transfer fee collected from Chelsea for the transfer of Romelu Lukaku. The Nerazzurri are closing in on Edin Dzeko and have also initiated contacts for Denzel Dumfries.
How a cohesive, title-winning team turned into a chaotic mess is something that has sparked debate and discussions within the football community. Despite misfortunes, Inter are trying to put together a team for new head coach Simone Inzaghi ahead of the start of the season.
Last season’s top scorer Romelu Lukaku has returned to Chelsea, and so has full-back Achraf Hakimi, who joined PSG in July. Inter are left with a small proportion of the recouped transfer fee, which they get to use to bring in new faces.
Duvan Zapata (Atalanta) and Joaquin Correa (Lazio) were linked with a move to Internazionale when it first emerged that the Nerazzurri would be willing to sell Lukaku. The Correa links have all but vanished, and while some reports indicate that a move for Zapata might yet materialize, the striker closest to signing for Inter is veteran Edin Dzeko from AS Roma.
Sempre Inter reports that the Serie A champions will attempt to sign the 35-year-old on a free transfer. However, as the Romans demand a 4 million euros fee for their forward, chances are the two clubs agree to a compromise and exchange exactly half of that in between them.
Personal terms should not be an issue – reports Fabrizio Romano – with the Bosnian striker willing to pen down a contract until 2023. Dzeko will arrive on the cheap, helping Inter preserve much of the reported 35 million euro transfer budget that they have been assigned for the summer.
One player who will cost a lot more than 2 million is Denzel Dumfries. The Netherlands international enjoyed a breakthrough tournament this summer, when he was the star right-back/right wing-back of the 2020 Euro.
The Dutch media outlet VI reports that Inter have tracked the 25-year-old for some time and could follow up with an official bid once the Lukaku deal goes through.
However, while Inter wants Dumfries on an initial loan deal, PSV want to sell him for a fee between 15-20 million euros. Should a move not materialize, Dumfries will rejoin the PSV squad ahead of their Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland.
