Former Germany and Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack’s son Emilio has passed away in a quad bike accident. The 18-year-old reportedly passed away on 5th of.
According to the Portuguese media outlet A Bola, the accident happened in Troia, south of Lisbon, near Ballack’s house. The firefighters who were present at the scene of the accident revealed that the accident happened when the quad flipped on the victim and crushed him.
“The accident happened at the family home. The quad rider wasn’t on a public road and his was the only vehicle involved. The quad was on an uneven piece of land and at this stage, it appears to have gone backwards and as it did fell on top of the victim and crushed him,”
an officer said.
There were attempts to rescue the youngster, but all in vain as Emilio was declared dead at the spot of the accident.
Michael Ballack, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to come out of Germany, is yet to make any official comment.
The news regarding his son’s demise has shocked social media and there has been an outpouring of emotions from the people since the news was revealed. Chelsea were the first club to pass on their condolences.
The reports of the accident have not been made public but the news suggests that the accident happened near an apartment block known as Villas do Mar.
Emilio was Ballack’s one of three children that he had with his long-term girlfriend Simone Lambe.
