One of the summer’s biggest signings is about to go through as the Cityzens have booked Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish in for a medical. The Birmingham club have started to look for replacements.
Reining Premier League champions could soon announce the British record purchase. Grealish is expected to undergo his medical ahead of a move on Thursday before being unveiled as a new player.
Sky Sports reports that City triggered a release clause worth 100 million pounds in Grealish’s contract. Villa had attempted to tie their captain down by offering a new and improved contract, but the player chose to join City instead to compete for titles. AV also offered Grealish better wages than he would receive at City, but that too proved insufficient.
The midfielder is expected to undergo his City medical on Thursday, and by all accounts, an agreement between the player and the club on personal terms should not be an issue. Following the completion of formalities, Manchester City will unveil Grealish as their first signing of the summer. The Citizens are expected to turn their attention towards signing Harry Kane from Tottenham for a similar fee next.
Meanwhile, Villa will target Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell to replace Grealish, reports Sky. Cantwell was one of Norwich’s standout performers in the league during their last season in the top flight but only has a year left on his contract at the club. Norwich also have the option to extend the 23-year-old’s contract by another year and are reluctant to lose their star asset after already selling Emiliano Buendia to Villa.
Villa have already signed former Bayer Leverkusen wingman Leon Bailey. They also announced the surprise signing of Danny Ings from Southampton on Wednesday. Furthermore, reports indicate that they are close to re-signing Axel Tuanzebe on loan from Manchester United.
