Eriksen unlikely to resume career in Serie A until certain conditions are met, confirms FA expert

Italian FA’s Technical-Scientific Committee member Franceso Barconaro has confirmed that Christian Eriksen won’t be allowed to resume his playing career in Italy until he receives certain clearances. Eriksen collapsed on the field during Denmark’s opening game at the Euros against Finland but has since recovered.

“Right now Eriksen could not be eligible to play. If the player’s ICD is removed because the pathology has been resolved, he can return to Inter,”

    Barconaro told Radio KissKiss Napoli.

The incident involving Eriksen took place on May 25, 2021, in the later stages of the first half. The Danish playmaker suddenly collapsed on the pitch during a routine throw-in, requiring referee Anthony Taylor to call in medical assistance immediately.

The Dane received on-pitch treatment for several minutes before being transported to Copenhagen’s Rigshospitalet. Despite his collapse, UEFA decided to continue playing the match one hour after the incident. Denmark lost 1-0 on the night to debutantes Finland.

Once stabilized and recovered, the Eriksen was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator device, which, as it happens, makes him ineligible to return to the field in Italy. Sempre Inter reports that Internazionale will allow Eriksen to recover completely – as he is doing currently in his native Denmark – before bringing him back to Milan.

Inter Milan are yet to provide an update on the future of Eriksen but have made moves in the market to sign players who play in similar positions. The Nerazzurri recently confirmed the free signing of midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, who, in theory, plays a similar position to that of Eriksen. The Turkey international last played in Serie A for Inter’s rivals AC Milan, but after deciding against renewing his contract, moved across the city divide.
