The three players have made a comeback in the reckoning after missing West Indies’ previous ODI series in March against Sri Lanka due to their failure to attain the minimum fitness standards required.
The rest of the ODI squad led by Kieron Pollard has been retained from the 3-0 series victory over the Lankans, barring off-spinner Kevin Sinclair and left-hand batsman Kyle Mayers. The selectors have kept young speedster Anderson Philip in the mix after his debut in the final one-dayer against Sri Lanka.
“This squad is coming off a comprehensive series win against Sri Lanka which should boost their confidence going into what is expected to be a tougher contest against Australia. The return of Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase and Sheldon Cottrell adds greater depth and experience to the squad,”
Roger Harper, CWI Lead Selector said.
The hosts are eyeing important ICC Super League points through their three-match series against the visitors in familiar conditions. The league determines direct qualification spots for the 2023 World Cup in India.
West Indies, having somehow sneaked through the cut-throat global qualifier the last time, wouldn’t want to be placed as vulnerably in the ongoing cycle.
Their task, however, will be tough against the mighty Aussies, who have won 37 and lost just 8 of their previous encounters against the Calypso Kings since 2000, including 15 wins from 22 games in the Caribbean.
The three matches will be played in Barbados on July 20th, 22nd and 24th, respectively.
