Chris Gayle has made a return to the Caribbean Premier League after skipping the 2020 edition due to personal reasons. Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis and Shakib Al Hasan have been signed up by St Lucia Zouks and Jamaica Tallawahs.
Chris Gayle is all set to make a comeback to the Caribbean Premier League after he missed the 2020 edition due to personal reasons. He will turn out for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in this CPL 2021. The Universe Boss has played a couple of seasons for the team – 2017 and 2018. He even led them to the final in the 2017 edition, where they went down against Trinbago Knight Riders.
Gayle’s inclusion comes as a big boost for the Patriots, as they had a shoddy season in 2020. They finished with the wooden spoon and managed to win a mere one game. The franchise took to their official Instagram page to break the news and make it official.
When Gayle last featured in the CPL, he played for the Jamaica Tallawahs in 2019. The left-handed opener smashed a hundred in the second game (116 off 62 balls), but his form tapered off after that, and it had an adverse effect on the Jamaica Tallawahs’ form as well. Just ahead of the 2020 season, Gayle left the Jamaica Tallawahs due to a massive dispute with head coach Ramnaresh Sarwan and Gayle publicly lashed out at Sarwan as well.
Meanwhile, St Lucia Zouks have been bolstered by the addition of Faf du Plessis. The South African veteran returns to the CPL after five years. He last featured in the tournament in 2016 when he led St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. He played all 10 games in the 2016 edition.
Shakib Al Hasan returns to the Jamaica Tallawahs. The premier Bangladesh all-rounder played for them back in 2016 and 2017. In 2019, Shakib had moved to the Barbados Tridents, where he won the title with them.
The full squads of each team will be out after the player draft is complete on the 28th of May (Friday).
