Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan returns to the limited-overs squad lead by Tamim Iqbal after missing out on the ODI series against New Zealand earlier this year due to the birth of his third child.
After missing the Test tour against Sri Lanka away from home to play in the now-suspended IPL, Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman return to represent their national side against Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series which is a part of the ODI Super League. The series is set to be played between May 23rd and May 28th in Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
Batsmen Mohammad Naim, Nazmul Hossain, and pacer Al-Amin Hossain have been rested. Naim Sheikh, Taijul Islam, Shohidul Islam, Aminul Islam Biplob, have been included in the squad as stand-by players.
“We felt we don’t need too many players for a home series. This is why some players have been rested. A few other players have been kept as stand-by. They would also remain in bio-bubble”
said chief selector Minhajul Abedin.
On the flip side, the Sri Lankan team led by Kusal Perera was defeated 0-3 by the Caribbean’s in their own backyard. However, the team recently enjoyed a victory against the Tigers in the Test series.
With this confidence, they have arrived in Dhaka and completed the mandatory three-day quarantine period and will go about practising on Friday.
