Pakistani pacer praised the Indian Premier League and called it as the best T20 tournament in the world at the current instance. Although, he also claimed that teams in PSL have better bowling line-ups as compared to IPL.
Calling IPL as the more superior league in comparison to his country’s T20 competition PSL, Riaz has raised a few eyebrows. The left-arm pacer has been involved in the PSL ever since its first season. The 34-year-old is also the all-time highest wicket-taker in the league. In a recent interview, Wahab highlighted a few factors which make IPL better than PSL.
The left-arm seamer talked about the top international players in the IPL and credited that to be one of the main reasons it has such a huge following globally.
“IPL is a league where all the top international players come and play. You can’t compare IPL with PSL, I believe IPL is at a different level,”
Riaz said.
Over the years, the BCCI has created a window to ensure that the top international players feature in the marquee league. Whereas in PSL, international players who are not in the regulars for their country are mostly included.
Riaz also pointed out that the way IPL drafts players are also different. In IPL, player auctions are held, which allows the players to fetch the maximum salary. Whereas in PSL, the draft system is utilized, which has players getting categorized under a salary bracket.
“The way things run in the IPL, the way they communicate things and draft the players, that is totally different. I don’t think any league can compete with the IPL, but if there is any league that stands behind it, it has to be the PSL. The League in Pakistan has proved it,”
Riaz said during the interview with Cricket Pakistan’s YouTube Channel.
However, Riaz also claimed that the bowling standards in the PSL are higher than any other league. He also said that when it comes to bowling units, then PSL is even better than IPL.
