Rangers were thrashed 7-1 mostly thanks to Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah, who seemed to return to form with an extraordinary six-minute hat trick off the bench.
The Scottish giants were able to take the early lead but were overpowered by the Reds, with Roberto Firmino putting in a brilliant performance. The Brazilian scored the equaliser before doubling his tally ten minutes into the second half. He also set up Darwin Nunez‘ goal before Salah came on to pull off a most wonderful performance, ending the game as a contest barely a few minutes into his introduction in the game.
Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa was sensational as the Primeira Liga side captured three points against newly appointed manager Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side. Costa was instrumental in the 3-0 victory, saving a penalty and also delivering an excellent assist barely six minutes into the game to allow Wenderson Galeno to nudge his side in front.
Karim Demirbay’s near-perfect penalty was saved by the diving 23-year-old, who is giving the likes of veteran Rui Patricio and Jose Sa a run for their money with the World Cup just over a month away.
Mehdi Taremi was able to convert two spot kicks as Porto jumped to second place in their Champions League group. The Portuguese side’s win puts severe pressure on Atletico Madrid and Bayer, who both finished third in their respective leagues last season.
However, the most entertaining game of the night came at the iconic Camp Nou, where Barcelona and Inter Milan played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. Barcelona were the better side in the first half, even taking the lead via Ousmane Dembele.
Inter struck back early on in the second, with Nicolo Barella wonderfully eluding the stalwart Gerard Pique, controlling a weighted ball from Alessandro Bastoni to equalise.
With their qualification on the line, Barca seemed to go into a frenzy, as they transitioned into an ultra-attacking style of play. Barcelona went behind yet again in the 90th minute before Robert Lewandowski came in clutch to equalise yet again, as the game ended 3-3 amidst absolute pandemonium. Despite the result, Barcelona’s qualification remains in doubt, while a drop to the Europa League remains almost certain.
