A clip of former Arsenal captain criticising the side’s head coach Mikel Arteta’s inability to manage personalities gained a lot of traction on social media. The ex-Gabon international came out to clarify and suggested that he had “a lot of bad feelings” for them at the time but wishes them well now.
Aubameyang, who now plies his trade for Chelsea in the Premier League after securing a transfer from Barcelona in September, was the captain of Arsenal less than 12 months ago and was part of Arteta’s side.
He was a beloved figure at the Emirates Stadium, but his relationship with the club reportedly worsened following a very public falling out with Arteta over disciplinary issues and as a result, Aubameyang was removed as captain and he became a pariah in North London.
In a video released by A Jewellers, seemingly during his time in Barcelona, Aubameyang was filmed taking a swipe at his former manager and criticising his inability to handle big players and personalities.
“To manage big characters and big players, he can’t deal with it,”
said the 33-year-old.
When asked whether Arteta had good people skills, he said:
“He needs some young players who don’t say anything, they just listen.”
On Monday, however, Aubameyang came out to clarify that the video had been recorded in February after he had just secured his transfer to Barcelona. He had joined the club on a surprise notice and in the final few hours of deadline day after managing to rescind his contract with Arsenal.
“At the time I still had a lot of bad feelings in me — Arsenal are doing great things this season and I wish all my old guys well. Just not on November 6,”
Aubameyang wrote on Twitter.
