Four of Australia T20 World Cup 2021 winners are back to the squad for their upcoming home series against the West Indies after having missed out against India recently.
The Aussies have included David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Mitchell Starc and Marcus Stoinis in their 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match T20I series against the Windies in Queensland.
Each of the four players had missed out on the side’s recent tour of India, wherein Australia went down 1-2 in a closely fought three-match T20I series. Warner was rested, as were Starc, Stoinis and Marsh, as a precautionary measure for knee, side strain and ankle problems respectively.
Cameron Green, who registered scores of 61 off 30, 5 and 52 off 21 respectively in the three T20Is against India, retains his place. Left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Ashton Agar and right-arm quick Kane Richardson have been rested.
“We have and are taking a cautious approach with the World Cup on the near horizon,”
national selector George Bailey said.
“To have four key players return gives us the ability to take a conservative path with any minor issues and resolve those well in time for the World Cup. As such we anticipate Kane and Ashton will return for the following series against England.”
The first T20I will be played at the Carrara Oval, Queensland on Wednesday, October 5, followed by the second at The Gabba, Brisbane on Friday, October 7. Australia will then host England for three T20Is between October 9 and 14, before the T20 World Cup 2022 kick starts on October 16.
