The two-time Indian Super League champions have signed wing-man Prasanth K on a one-year contract for the 2022-23 season. The 25-year-old Kozhikode native will join the Marina Machans after five years with Kerala Blasters.
Prasanth has made 76 professional appearances and has three goals and as many assists to his name. When KBFC loaned him out to Chennai City in the I-League in 2017, he made his professional debut.
“I’m truly happy and overwhelmed to be a part of this club. I’m here to give my 100 per cent and raise the bar,”
Prasanth told CFC media after putting pen to papers.
Prasanth, a product of the All India Football Federation’s Elite Academy, has also represented India at the Under-17 and U-20 levels. He had one goal and one assist in 324 minutes of football during the 2021-22 season.
Talking about the club’s new signing, CFC co-owner Vita Dani said:
“Prasanth is a great solution to boost our depth in attack ahead of the upcoming season. Having played in Chennai earlier, he should fit in perfectly.”
The Marina Machans will be hoping for a better showing this time after finishing eighth in the 2021-22 ISL season and failing to make the play-offs.
They had started the previous season under Bozidar Bandovic before the club, and the well-travelled Montenegrin coach decided to part ways midway through the season due to a string of poor results. The Yellow Brigade was then taken over on an interim basis by ex-India international Sabir Pasha.
They recently hired Thomas Brdaric as their new head coach for the upcoming season. During his most recent tenure, the German led KF Vllaznia to the Albanian Cup for the second time in a row. In the 2020-21 season, the team finished second in the Albanian Championship.
Chennaiyin began the season well under new head coach, reaching the knockout stages of the Durand Cup 2022. They were eliminated from the tournament in the quarter-finals after a thrilling loss to Mumbai City. On October 10, CFC will kick off their season against ATK Mohun Bagan in Kolkata.
