On August 8, Indian Super League shield winners of the 2021-22 campaign Jamshedpur FC announced the signing of midfielder Germanpreet Singh until 2024.
The former Minerva Punjab player has played five seasons in the ISL for Chennaiyin. He scored once and assisted three times for the Marina Machans in 62 appearances in the league. He was also part of Chennai’s ISL-winning squad in 2017-18.
The seasoned midfielder expressed his delight after signing for the team from Tamil Nadu in a club statement.
“I wanted to take on a new challenge after playing with Chennaiyin FC for 5 years. When Jamshedpur came calling it was an obvious choice. I play to win and Jamshedpur is a club with huge ambitions having proved so in the way it won the League Winners Shield.”
“I am excited to be playing at the Furnace representing the vibrant Red Miners. It’s an added responsibility to defend and add more to the club’s achievements and I look forward to working hard in training and games to achieve the same,”
he said.
With his work rate, the midfielder is expected to add more firepower to the Jamshedpur FC midfield. Aidy Boothroyd, the club’s head coach, expressed his delight at the signing of the experienced midfielder.
The Englishman was quoted in the club statement:
“Germanpreet is an exciting player who fits our playing style. He is young, skill full and has a strong physical presence which is an added asset to our midfield. He is a proven Champion in the ISL and brings that winning mentality for himself and the team.”
Since hiring Boothroyd as the Men of Steel’s new head coach, Jitendra Singh’s contract with the club was extended whilst Muhammed Uvais was brought in for a decent transfer fee. Jamshedpur FC have also recently signed Harry Sawyer and Wellington Priori. Notably, Priori was previously a member of the club.
Despite the fact that the club has signed the aforementioned players, a few ISL Shield winners have left the squad. Jordan Murray has left Jamshedpur FC. Greg Stewart, on the other hand, agreed to terms with Mumbai City.
