Following his explosive season with Barcelona and the Spanish national team, Gavi was on the shopping list of several European top clubs, including Bayern Munich. However, all of Bayern’s advances were met with rejection as the La Masia product didn’t deter from his insistence on continuing with his boyhood club.
After bursting onto the scene with the club last season, Gavi went on to make his national debut with Spain and then established himself as one of the top stars of the future to look out for. However, despite all of his dazzling talents and achievements on the pitch, the 18-year-old is yet to sign a contract of promotion to the first team.
This prompted several European clubs, most notably Bayern Munich, to take an interest in the player and according to a recent report from BILD, Gavi’s name was on the secret shopping list of the German champions.
The Bavarians consider Gavi to be a long-term and believe that he could be one of the best midfielders in the world in the future. As a result, they had enquired about the possibility of signing him as well as looking his contractual situation with Barcelona.
Over the course of the summer, his future with the Catalan club was quite uncertain as his contract with the club was set to expire at the end of the 2022/23 season and the club were at the risk of losing him on a cut-price deal.
It has also been reported that Liverpool were ready to offer 50 million euro for the services of Gavi, with Bayern also interested in him along similar lines. However, according to the report, Gavi had made it clear that he was only focusing on succeeding at Barcelona.

The player has already forged a successful and wonderful working relationship with manager Xavi Hernandez, and he continues to feature prominently in the World Cup winner’s plans. The former Barcelona captain also fought hard to keep the player at the club.
With that being said, the midfielder was also cognizant of the fact that success with Barcelona increases his chances of playing for Spain during the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup and as such, he didn’t want to change environments.
Currently, Gavi’s contract renewal with Barcelona seems to be only a matter of time, and according to sources in Spain, everything has been finalized. The only reason why it wasn’t carried out this summer was because of the limited space on the wage bill and as a result, Gavi is not only expected to sign a new contract in January but will also take over the famous number 6 shirt, once worn by Xavi himself, when he is officially promoted.
