The Red Devils have had a club-record bid for Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix knocked back, as per reports in Spanish media.
United are trying to put an underwhelming start to the season aside by signing multiple players before the end of the transfer window. The Red Devils have signed Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, and Lisandro Martinez so far. But new reports suggest they are in for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix and FC Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubamyenag, among several other names.
According to Spanish news outlet AS, they have had a club-record 130 million euro bid for Felix turned down by Atletico Madrid. Los Rojiblancos, who themselves paid a whopping 126 million for the Portuguese forward after just one season with SL Benfica, have instead pointed the Red Devils towards his release clause, which stands at an eye-watering 350 million.
United have also explored the possibility of bringing former Arsenal forward Aubameyang back to the Premier League. However, the Red Devils face competition from league rivals Chelsea for the Gabon international’s signature and, per the report, are likely to end up as his second choice if he does leave Barcelona in the coming days.
Erik ten Hag and his team are also trying to overhaul the goalkeeping department. While David de Gea looks set to function as the team’s number one despite a torrid start to the season, the club is interested in signing a backup goalkeeper following the loan departure of Dean Henderson.
To that end, Manchester United are interested in Everton’s second-choice goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, claims The Telegraph. The Bosnian joined the Toffees a year ago and made seven appearances in the 2021/22 season across all competitions, including three in the league. The former Chelsea and AC Milan goalkeeper is currently the number two at Goodison Park behind England stalwart Jordan Pickford.
Per Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have also shown an interest in Leeds United starter Illan Meslier. The 22-year-old Frenchman is considered one of the best young goalkeepers in the league by many, having kept the goal for the Whites throughout their stint in the top flight. However, Leeds are reluctant to part ways with the youngster and are unwilling to negotiate with their bitter rivals a transfer agreement.
