Juventus, AC Milan, and Internazionale were all in action on Wednesday night for their respective Serie A matches. The trio all recorded extremely different results. While Juve beat Parma, the Nerazzurri drew against Spezia, and the Rossoneri lost to Sassuolo.
Juventus begrudgingly admitted defeat in forming the European Super League via a statement on Wednesday. Milan clubs, on the other hand, notified their fans about their withdrawal from the competition using much more sincere tones. With the threat of the tournament dealt with, for now, all three teams took to the pitch to play their respective league games.
Inter Milan have the title insights, but Milan and Juventus still have plenty left to fight for. Both the teams were out of the title race long ago and are currently looking to secure a UEFA Champions League spot for next season, now that the competition is back on the menu.
AC Milan took on Sassuolo in the early fixture and drew first blood in the match. Turkish midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu gave the Rossoneri the lead in the 30th minute when he curled a delightful shot past the opposition goalkeeper. However, Sassuolo hit back in the second half and levelled the match through young Italian striker Giacomo Raspadori.
He popped up again late into the game to score what would be the winning goal for Sassuolo. Stefano Pioli’s side could not find their way back into the match and now risk losing a UCL spot they have held on to all season.
Juventus, meanwhile, registered a routine 3-1 win over Parma to consolidate their position in the league table. The Bianconeri had their defenders to thank for the performance, with all three goals coming via their backline. Alex Sandro scored twice for Andrea Pirlo’s side after Gaston Brugman had given Parma the lead. Matthijs De Ligt netted Juventus’ third late on to seal the win for his side.
Elsewhere, runaway leaders Inter Milan dropped points against relegation-threatened Spezia. Antonio Conte’s men conceded first through Diego Farias before Ivan Perisic levelled the match. However, they could not find the goal to take them ahead on the night and ended up sharing the spoils.
