Borussia Dortmund are in danger of missing out on the UEFA Champions League next season, as they currently find themselves out of the top four spots. However, they did manage to close the gap on fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt with a win over Union Berlin on Wednesday.

The Bundesliga is heading towards an exciting climax, especially in terms of the top four spots. Bayern Munich look to have secured another title, and RB Leipzig are the favourites to finish second. However, the situation gets interesting below the top two spots, with several teams still trying to finish in a European spot.

One of those teams is Dortmund, who closed the gap on fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt with a win over Union on Wednesday. Edin Terzic’s side registered a routine 2-0 win over their opponents and could the gap to the UCL spots to just four points.

Marco Reus gave Dortmund the lead in the 37th minute in their match against Union after Erling Haaland missed the original spot-kick. Dortmund continued to dominate the match and ended up recording as many as 20 shots at goal. They were rewarded for their persistence with a second goal late into the match. Raphael Guerreiro scored two minutes from time to give his side all three points on the night.

Elsewhere, Hoffenheim came from two goals down to beat Borussia Monchengladbach 3-2. The Foals raced into a two-goal lead in the first half, courtesy of Alassane Plea and Valentino Lazaro. However, Hoffenheim hit instantly after the break, with Andrej Kramaric pulling one back.

Hoffenheim then levelled the match right on the hour mark, with Ilhas Bebou scoring the crucial goal. Kramaric then popped up five minutes later to score what would be the winning goal for his side.

Meanwhile, UCL contenders Wolfsburg beat VfB Stuttgart 3-1 to solidify their position in their table. The Wolves took the lead through Xaver Schlager in the 13th minute before Wout Weghorst scored their second just before the half-hour mark. Yannick Gerhardt secured the points in the second half with his side’s third goal before Gonzalo Castro pulled one back for his side late on.
