Crystal Palace have made Bayern Munich graduate Chris Richards their fourth signing of the summer, following Sam Johnstone, Malcolm Ebiowei, and Cheick Doucoure.
Richards, who spent the previous season on loan at Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim, has joined Palace on a five-year contract, which will run until the end of the 2026/27 season after the Eagles paid Bayern 12 million euros for the USMNT international.
In his first interview for the club, the central defender claimed manager Patrick Vieira played a big role in convincing him to sign for the Premier League side.
“He showed me the fight the club has, and over the years the potential we have with the younger guys who are eventually going to become veterans at some point. I’m really looking forward to it and, like I said, Patrick has showed a plan that really seems like it’s going to work,”
Richards said.
Meanwhile, Fulham have secured the services of former Newcastle right-back Kevin Mbabu for an undisclosed fee from VfL Wolfsburg.
The Swiss international, who has won the Swiss Super League twice with Young Boys, becomes the Cottagers’ fourth signing of the ongoing transfer window.
“I’m happy to be here as a Fulham Football Club player. It’s a relief and now I can focus on my goals and the Club’s goals, and help the team to be successful. The first step is to stay in the Premier League, stay stable in the league, and then why not aim for the top-10?”
Earlier this summer, the club roped in Joao Palhinha (Sporting Club), Andreas Pereira (Manchester United), and Manor Solomon (Shakhtar Donetsk) and is already aiming for a top ten finish in the league.
Everton, too, have been busy in the transfer market. After signing James Tarkowski on a free transfer from the relegated Burnley, the Toffees have brought in left wingback Ruben Vinagre from Sporting Club on a one-year loan deal.
The Portuguese has prior experience playing in England for Wolverhampton, for whom he made 56 appearances across three seasons in the top division.
