Hasan Salihamidzic and Oliver Kahn have spoken on Bayern Munich’s links to Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt, respectively. The Bundesliga winners are rumoured to be in the market for both after selling Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona.
Bayern Munich, while rumours may have suggested it lately, will not attempt a move for Cristiano. The Bavarians are looking for a leader up-front after selling Lewandowski to FC Barcelona, while Ronaldo is looking for a fresh challenge with the Red Devils confirmed to have missed out on next season’s UEFA Champions League. However, the Portuguese international does not fit the club’s policy, as per directors Salihamidzic and Kahn.
“I have a lot of respect for Cristiano Ronaldo, his successes, and his career. But once again: That was and is not a topic for us,”
Salihamidzic said.
“I love Cristiano Ronaldo, fantastic player but every club has a philosophy and I’m not sure if it would be the right signal for Bayern and Bundesliga if we signed him now. Such a move does not necessarily fit with our ideas,”
Kahn added.
Chelsea and Napoli, too, have been linked with the Portuguese of late. But, the latest rumours reiterate that the forward is likeliest to play for Manchester United again next season.
While talking about linked players, Kahn also confirmed that Bayern are interested in signing Juventus and Netherlands national team central defender Matthijs de Ligt. The Bavarians have seen off competition from Chelsea to sign the Dutchman and are currently negotiating a deal with the Bianconeri to complete the transfer.
As per the legendary former goalkeeper, the player is keen to sign for Bayern, ending his Italian adventure, and further talks are scheduled to reach a resolution.
“We talked. The player wants to come to Bayern Munich. We’ll have more talks and then we’ll see how things go. I’m very careful about making any predictions,”
Kahn said.
The Dutchman joined Juventus in 2019 from boyhood club AFC Ajax. He has made 117 appearances for the Bianconeri giants since and won the league title once.
