Indian Super League runners-up KBFC confirmed the signing of central defender Victor Mongil Adeva ahead of the start of the upcoming domestic season. The 29-year-old Spaniard, who can play in both central defence and midfield, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Kochi-based club.
The player won the Indian Super League with ATK Mohun Bagan in his debut season in India in 2020 before returning to Dinamo Tbilisi. The Spaniard returned to India in 2021 with Odisha FC and was one of their captains last season.
“Victor is an experienced ISL player, a team-minded guy and a player who can cover different positions. He showed high motivation to join our project and that’s a very important factor,”
said Blasters sporting director Karolis Skinkys.
This is the Blasters’ second foreign signing ahead of the new season, following the announcement last week of the transfer of Greek-born Australia international striker Apostolos Giannou.
After the end of last season, the Yellow Army let go of Bosnian centre-back Enes Sipovic, who has since joined Kuwait’s Al Jahra SC. Spanish striker Alvaro Vazquez has joined rivals FC Goa, while his attacking partner Jorge Pereyra Diaz has also left the club after his contract expired.
“I am looking forward to being with my teammates and for a very exciting season to begin. Surely this year, together with the fans and their return to the stadiums, we will be able to fight for very nice things,”
said Mongil, who will look to form a defensive partnership with Marko Leskovic at the club.
Born in Valladolid, the former Spain U17 international began his youth career at his hometown club, where he made his professional debut with the B team before moving on to the Valladolid first team. He also played Atletico Madrid B, and Levante B before joining Dinamo Tbilisi, where he competed in the 2019-20 UEFA Europa League.
Kerala would be hoping to win their maiden league title in the upcoming season after missing out on the championship by finishing second for three seasons including the last season.
