Paris Saint Germain-are in negotiations to sign Italian international Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo, the club’s director Giovanni Carnevali has confirmed. The Parisians are also keeping an eye on French starlet Hugo Ekitike.
In his interview with Sky Sport Italia, Carnevali has confirmed talks were held with PSG’s new football advisor Luis Campos regarding the transfer of Italy international Scamacca. The Parisians are among a list of clubs interested in the young forward, with Arsenal, Inter Milan, and AC Milan also linked with credible interest in recent weeks.
“Luis Campos is a friend; we also met around the Champions League final. We talked about a few players, but without doubt, Scamacca was a subject of the conversation. I think many clubs are interested in the player,”
Carnevali said.
23-year-old Scamacca has already enjoyed a storied career that took him from his native Italy to the Netherlands and back to his birthplace. The towering forward came through the ranks at Lazio and AS Roma before joining PSV Eindhoven’s youth side, but his failure to break into the first team saw him return to Serie A with Sassuolo, for whom he scored 16 goals in 41 appearances in 2021/22, his breakout season.
Reims striker Hugo Ekitike, the subject of strong interest from Newcastle United, is also on the list of targets PSG are pursuing this summer, and, as per RMC, the player is stalling a move to England in the hopes of sealing a switch to the French capital.
The Magpies have already agreed to a fee with Reims – believed to be 36 million euros plus a further 10 million in add-ons – but have begun to look for alternatives, fearing that they will be gazumped by the Ligue 1 champions. However, PSG are prepared to wait until a new manager comes in before advancing talks to sign the France youth international, who has been nominated for the 2022 Golden Boy award.
