As per a report by Goal, the Red Devils are in talks to sign winger Antony from AFC Ajax – reports say. The Brazilian’s representatives have flown over to Europe to quickly conclude an agreement, thus allowing the youngster to complete the switch.
The 22-year-old joined the Dutch giants in the summer of 2020, replacing the outgoing Hakim Ziyech on the right flank. He enjoyed a productive first season, and an even better second one, attracting the admiring glances of several of Europe’s top clubs. United are one of those clubs and are hoping to reunite Antony with former Ajax coach Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
Antony could be a Manchester United player in a matter of days. The player’s representatives have flown over to Europe to discuss terms with the club and conclude an agreement. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are also confident of securing the player’s release from the Amsterdam club.
They are prepared to pay a fee in the region of 50 million pounds to secure the Brazil international’s signature. Furthermore, a part of that fee will go to Antony’s former club Sao Paulo due to a clause in his Ajax contract.
Meanwhile, Antony is not the only Ajax player Manchester United are trying to recruit this summer. The club has also been linked with centre-backs Jurrien Timber and Lisandro Martinez, although they are yet to enter the home stretch in either of those negotiations.
Former Ajax star Frenkie de Jong, too, is a key target for the Red Devils this summer. According to Diario Sport, the midfielder is open to a move to Old Trafford and that the club is prepared to pay a fee in the region of 80 million to secure his release from FC Barcelona.
Manchester United are set for a mini-overhaul under new manager ten Hag. Several first-team players have already left the club, including Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba, while a few more are expected to do the same in the coming weeks.
