Los Blancos are on the verge of making their second summer signing. The Spanish and European champions have agreed a deal with AS Monaco worth upto 100 million euros for the transfer of midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, reports David Ornstein of The Athletic.
Real Madrid are ready to pay the Monegasque club 80 million upfront for the France international, along with 20 million in achievable bonuses, to sign Tchouameni, beating interest from Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and Chelsea.
Recent reports confirmed that Tchouameni had no shortage of suitors this summer following a breakout season with AS Monaco. However, rumours claimed that the central midfielder had eyes only on a transfer to Madrid, despite strong interest from PSG and Liverpool.
The 22-year-old is now understood to be on the verge of realizing his dream with his parent club and Real Madrid in the process of finalizing the paperwork ahead of some other formalities.
As per Fabrizio Romano, the Parisians were offering Tchouameni the biggest financial package out of all his suitors, but, after receiving the indication that the player wasn’t keen on a move, left the negotiations, paving the way for Real Madrid to complete the deal.
Liverpool, too, approached the midfielder with a proposal with Jurgen Klopp directly contacting him, but the Bordeaux academy graduate had already agreed personal terms with Real Madrid ahead of the UEFA Champions League final. As per the report, the Frenchman will sign a five-year contract with the champions of Europe in the coming days.
Tchouameni came through the ranks of Bordeaux before leaving his boyhood club to sign for AS Monaco in the winter window of 2019/20. Over the next two-and-a-half years, the midfielder made 95 appearances for the principality side, helping them finish third in both of his full seasons at the club.
With a deal to take him to Spain in place, he will become Real Madrid’s second signing of the summer after centre-back Antonio Rudiger, who signed for Los Blancos on a free transfer from Chelsea.
