The New Zealander interacted with a young fan in the stands at the Motera Stadium following Rajasthan Royals’ win against RCB in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2022 and gave him his jersey.
Rajasthan Royals booked their ticket in the final of the Indian Premier League for the first time since their title-winning campaign in 2008. They overcame Bangalore in Qualifier 2 at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad to join Gujarat Titans in the final.
Following their dominant win, Trent Boult made a young fan’s day with his sweet gesture. The pacer gifted his jersey to the fan while heading to the dressing room. Rajasthan’s social media handle posted a video in which the incident was captured.
The Royals chose to bowl first after the toss landed in Sanju Samson’s favour for only the third time in the season. Boult and Prasidh Krishna started off well, with the latter dismissing Virat Kohli in his first over.
Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell threatened to put on a big total, but the Royals pulled things back exceptionally to restrict RCB from 130/3 in 15.2 overs to 157/8 at the end of 20. Krishna picked three for 22, while Obed McCoy also snared three for 23.
Chasing the target, Jos Buttler looked at his destructive best as he, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, put on 61 runs in the first five overs. The Englishman went on to hammer RCB bowlers to all parts of the Motera Stadium to bring up his fourth century in the IPL 2022, equalling Kohli’s record of the most hundreds in a season. Buttler remained unbeaten on 106 off 60 balls to take the Royals to the final.
RR will take on Gujarat Titans in the final at the same venue in Ahmedabad on May 29. The team and their fans will hope to clinch their second title in a perfect tribute to the late Australian great – ‘the first Royal’ Shane Warne.
