Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have completed their first signing of the summer transfer window. Ajax right-back Noussair Mazraoui joins the club on a free transfer on a contract until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The Moroccan has signed a four-year contract with the Bavarians after choosing not to renew his deal with his boyhood club AFC Ajax. 24-year-old Mazraoui was the subject of interest from several top European clubs, but Bayern led the race following the turn of the year and have now confirmed what was expected for months.

Upon signing for the German giants, Mazraoui spoke about his delight at signing for one of Europe’s super clubs. He hopes, says the Moroccan, to win the “biggest titles” at the Allianz Arena.

“I had a good feeling right from the first talks with FC Bayern and I’m happy to be moving to one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

“FC Bayern have just become German champions for the tenth time in a row and will also be among the contenders to win the Champions League again next year. I chose this club because I can win the biggest titles here,”

    he said.

Mazraoui joined the Ajax academy in 2006 and graduated to the Jong Ajax team a decade later. Two seasons thereafter, the right-back was called up to the senior squad by the then manager Erik ten Hag, and he became a stalwart in a squad of would-be superstars, playing some of the continent’s most attractive football alongside Frenkie de Jong, Hakim Ziyech, Donny van de Beek, and others.

Mazraoui helped Ajax reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League that season, but injuries curtailed the following two campaigns, during which he made a combined total of 46 appearances.

The Moroccan returned to his best in 2021/22, starting 35 games across all competitions as Ajax won the domestic title, reached the final of the domestic cup, and the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. He departs the Amsterdam club after 16 years with 137 appearances in the bank for the senior team and 10 goals.
