Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Turkish central midfielder Salih Ozcan. The midfielder joins the club from FC Koln and becomes their fourth signing of the summer already.
The 24-year-old had a year left on his current deal, which, in turn, allowed Dortmund to sign him for a small fee. As per Kicker, the Bundesliga giants paid just 5 million euros to free Ozcan from his contract.
Speaking to the BVB website, Ozcan claimed to be delighted at the prospect of continuing his development at Dortmund, which, he says, is one of the few clubs he would’ve left his boyhood club for.
“There are very few clubs I would’ve left my town for. Borussia Dortmund’s energy, which one can literally feel, plus the opportunity to play regularly in the Champions League, ultimately led me to my decision.
I’m very happy to be able to continue my development at BVB in front of more than 81,000 spectators and to help the team in the Bundesliga and the Champions League with my style of football. I’m very ambitious and willing to give everything to this end.”
he said.
Ozcan leaves Koln after more than 100 appearances for the club to become Dortmund’s fourth new summer signing. The Schwarzgelben began its summer overhaul early in anticipation of several key departures – which were confirmed earlier this month as the German season came to a close – by bringing in centre-backs Niklas Sule and Nico Schlotterbeck as well as striker Karim Adeyemi.
However, surprisingly, Dortmund also removed their manager Marco Rose last week, who left the club after just one season in charge. Edin Terzic, who took over as the interim manager from Lucien Favre when the Swiss was sacked in 2021 and won the DFB Pokal, is expected to return to take charge of the first team for the 2022/23 season and beyond.
