Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will not be short on explosive and young attacking talent and prowess for next season. They have completed the signings of Julian Alvarez from River Plate and City recently won the bid to land the services of Borussia Dortmund frontman Erling Haaland, one of the hottest prospects in Europe.
Back in January when the winter transfer window was still open, the Premier League leaders had completed the signing of Argentine striker Alvarez from River Plate on a five-and-a-half-year deal. As the summer transfer window is now approaching, they’re looking to make a return to River Plate and possibly approach another of their bright young talents.
As per a recent report in Record (via Sport Witness), Guardiola’s team have their sights set on Julian Alvarez’s teammate Enzo Fernandez and could be interested in bringing him to England this summer.
Enzo Fernandez is also a product of the River Plate youth academy, and the midfielder has made 44 appearances for the senior club. During that period, he has been quite prolific and has scored 10 goals while providing nine assists.
This season so far, Enzo has made 19 appearances across all competitions and the 21-year-old has scored eight goals while assisting six of his teammates’ goals as well. The Argentine can prove to be a dangerous and lethal goal contributor from midfield and this has attracted City’s interest and attention.
Given that City have prolific midfielders in Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and Bernardo Silva who have scored 29 goals between them this season, it isn’t hard to see why City think he will be a valuable addition to the midfield as Pep Guardiola prefers his midfielders to go forward and make late runs into the box in order to get goals. He also encourages them to shoot from afar.
Described by Robert Pires as a player who “always gives solutions to his teammates”, Fernandez could not only follow in the footsteps of his current teammate Alvarez by joining City, he could also create a deadly attacking partnership with him in Manchester.
Fernandez is said to have a 20 million pounds price tag which isn’t expected to be an issue for the Manchester City hierarchy in any case.
