Bayern Munich and Manchester United are both keeping a watchful eye on RB Leipzig’s midfielder Konrad Laimer. The Austrian international has been one of Leipzig’s better performers this season and has a contract until 2023.
Bayern Munich and Manchester United are keeping tabs on RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer. Both clubs have connections to the RB juggernaut through which Laimer has risen to the fore; the midfielder has passed through the system as many who enter it do, first at FC Liefering, then RB Salzburg, and eventually to Leipzig.
Ralf Rangnick, a former RB supremo and the present interim manager at Manchester United has personally recommended Laimer’s signing, while Julian Nagelsmann, the man who coached Leipzig before moving on to Bayern, has asked for the 24-year-old, too.
Laimer has a contract with Leipzig until 2023, but, as per rumors, the Austrian also has a 40 million euros release clause in his contract. Bayern, Manchester United, and even Borussia Dortmund are monitoring his situation closely, even though Leipzig do not want to let go of their star midfielder this summer.
Meanwhile, Bayern’s interest in Laimer is also confirmed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. The journalist claims that the Bavarians are pressing forward to sign the 24-year-old at the behest of their manager Nagelsmann; Bayern similarly reunited the German tactician with his former Leipzig players Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer last summer.
To that end, the Bundesliga champions are prepared to open talks with Leipzig with a bid of around 18-20 million euros, given his contractual situation. Romano also confirms that top Premier League clubs are chasing after the Austrian international.
Born and bred in Salzburg, Laimer joined the RB Salzburg ranks as a youth player before graduating to the senior setup. The midfielder left for sister club RB Leipzig in 2017, with whom he has been since. While Laimer’s 2020/21 season was disrupted by injuries, he managed to accumulate over 150 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit across five seasons. He has scored five times during this campaign, already making it his most productive in terms of goals.
