Wriddhiman Saha has provided quick starts to the team consistently in the IPL 2022. The Gujarat Titans cricketer confessed that he has always preferred playing shorter formats and can score quick runs even without the power of Russells and Dhonis of the world.
Saha’s international career was largely underwhelming due to the lack of opportunities and the tag of Test specialist. The Bengal wicketkeeper admitted that he has always had a more liking towards shorter formats as his playing style suits the white-ball cricket.
The 37-year-old replaced Matthew Wade in the playing XI after a string of low scores from the Australian wicketkeeper. Saha has made an impactful contribution for the team, scoring 68 off 38 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and providing some quick starts.
He has been playing in the IPL since the inaugural edition 2008 but has flown under the radar. The highlight of his IPL career was the 2014 season with Punjab Kings, in which he scored 362 runs, including a century in the final.
“I have always preferred to play the shorter formats since my childhood considering my style of the game. It is true that I don’t have a build like Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, and Dhoni Bhai but I have the potential to score quick runs for the team in the powerplay and not think about personal milestones. I have done this consistently,”
he said in a media interaction.
Saha is one of the best performing players in the powerplay in recent years. Since 2019, he has struck at 138.9 in the first six overs. He has continued that approach in the ongoing season.
“I think I have delivered 50-60 percent of my potential. I have failed a couple of times where I could have scored some runs but will hope to make up for it in the upcoming matches if I get the opportunity,”
the player added.
Table-toppers Titans will next face the former five-time champions and current bottom-placed Mumbai Indians on May 6.
