GT skipper Hardik Pandya believes one key reason behind the new entrant’s great success in IPL 2022 has been the prevalence of no hierarchy within their team culture. The team are already a toe into the playoffs, having clinched victories in eight of their nine games.
On April 30 afternoon, Gujarat found themselves precariously placed at 95 for four chasing a 171-run target against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. But they reached home eventually with half an over to spare and their six wickets still intact.
Speaking at the post-match media interaction, Hardik said such come-from-behind victories reflect GT’s skill, their strong temperament and also a dressing room culture which gives each player the freedom to play his game and build their own stature.
The 28-year-old stressed on that there is no hierarchy within the GT camp, and each player feels important to the team and takes responsibility for doing his job properly.
“As a person, I always make sure that I don’t like to grow just as an individual. I like to grow with my teammates or people around me. That’s the reason of our success as well. Obviously, I might be the captain, but there is no hierarchy.
Everyone is on the same path — one for all and all for one. That’s the approach which we’re carrying and that is the reason I think the boys feel they are as important as the captain,”
Pandya was quoted as saying by PTI.
On the day, the Titans found their heroes in experienced left-hander David Miller with his unbeaten 39 off 24 deliveries and another end-overs saviour act from Rahul Tewatia, who produced a critical 43 not out from 25 balls to take his team through.
Placed comfortably at the top of the points table, the Titans next face Punjab Kings on May 3 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
