Hyderabad FC have announced an extension to Joel Chianese’s contract, and have allowed the wing-man to leave on a short-term loan.
Australian attacker Joel Chianese has signed a one-year contract extension with Hyderabad FC, the club has confirmed. The 31-year-old, who played twelve times last season, has subsequently joined A-League side, Perth Glory, on a short-term loan deal. He will play for the Australian side in the ongoing domestic season and will return to Hyderabad following its conclusion.
Chianese was included in Perth’s 23-men squad for the A-league match against Newcastle Jets. The attacker entered the pitch in the 61st minute and managed to open the scoring with his first touch.
Chianese joined Hyderabad ahead of the 2020/21 season from Perth Glory. The Australian remained injured for the early parts of the season and ended up making only 12 appearances for the Nizams. He scored three times and assisted once, as his side narrowly missed out on a championship playoff berth.
Before joining Hyderabad, Chianese played for Perth Glory from 2016 till 2020. The 31-year-old made 87 appearances for the A-League side during the same time and scored 14 goals. He also helped his side win the Australian domestic championship in 2018/19 in the regular season. However, The Glory was beaten in the Grand Final by Sydney FC on penalties. Chianese returns to Perth on a short-term deal, with his side currently tenth in the league table.
Hyderabad also announced the departure of Indian international Liston Colaco recently. The youngster signed for ATK Mohun Bagan after the Kolkata side paid a record transfer fee. The fee made Colaco the most expensive Indian player in the history of the competition, beating the previous record set by Michael Soosairaj.
The Nizams will now focus on building their squad ahead of the 2021/22 ISL season. They finished the previous campaign with 29 points, just two short of a playoff spot. FC Goa finished fourth with 31 points on the board, beating them to the final slot.
