Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has rapidly risen through the ranks over the last year, and many are praising him for the way he is batting currently. The latest to join the bandwagon is former South Africa cricketer Dale Steyn, who has opined that Azam is the best batsman across all the formats currently.
Steyn is presently in India, fulfilling his role of a bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League. He decided to conduct a question and answer session for the followers on Twitter on April 14, a day before his side’s IPL clash against Kolkata Knight Riders.
During the session, the 38-year-old came across a question from the fan who asked him to name the current best all-format batsman. The former South Africa pacer was quick to reply and also praised him for his batting.
Azam has been making headlines for his batting for a while now. His form has certainly gone a notch up ever since he has been made the captain across all formats. The recent home series against Australia was a testament to his form.
The 27-year-old amassed 390 runs in five innings during the three-match Test series at an impeccable average of 78. He also ended the series as the third-highest run-getter, with only Usman Khawaja and Abdullah Shafique above him.
In the ODI series, Babar smashed 276 runs in three innings at an average of 138, while in the only T20I the two teams played, the Pakistan skipper scored a sparkling 66.
Despite his heroics with the bat, Pakistan lost the Test series 1-0. But the Men in Green managed to come from behind in the ODIs to win the series 2-1. Babar is currently enjoying the rest and will soon be back in action and will be hoping to continue his good vein of form with the T20 World Cup set to take place in Australia in October/November.
