Mesut Ozil is expected to part ways with Fenerbahce after the German midfielder fell out with the Turkish club’s hierarchy. The Istambul have begun the process of terminating his contract.
It is believed that Ozil always dreamt of playing in the United States and the offer from David Beckham’s side is quite alluring as Inter Miami seem like a natural fit. However, the 2014 World Cup winner is believed to want to continue in the Turkish capital as per reports.
The club, however, do not want him to stay. The former Arsenal and Real Madrid midfielder was suspended by Fenerbahce last month after having a tiff with interim manager Ismail Kartal during a match against Konyaspor.
The 33-year-old was subbed off at half-time in that match. Expressing his displeasure and disgust at the decision, the midfielder reportedly took off and threw his boots aiming at Kartal, which also caused squabbles in the dressing room.
AS Diario report that the club have no intentions to reinstate him back into the team. Fenerbahce president Ali Koc stated:
“We do not have that plan at the moment (of including Ozil back into the team). This decision is not child’s play. The most important thing is Fenerbahce.”
Ozil had joined Fenerbahce in Turkey from Arsenal last year after spending eight years at the London-based, club where he also had a falling out towards the end. The player who has been widely regarded as one the best midfielders in the world during this three-year spell at Real, had spent the majority of his last few years in London on the Arsenal bench.
Although Ozil has a contract with Fenerbahce until 2024, the Turkish club are said to be taking the initiative of annulling his contract.
Hull City, who are currently down in the Championship, have expressed their interest in the player. They are owned by Turkish media company Acun Medya. However, MLS outfit Inter Miami seems to be the more realistic destination for Ozil at the moment. The player is apparently also open to playing in the United States.
At the end of March, his agent Erkut Sogut openly stated that his client has no plans to leave Fenerbahce any time soon.
“I say this clearly here. Mesut will not go anywhere, and he certainly has no plans to leave. He will continue here as a Fenerbahce player for two more years until the end of his contract,”
Sogut told reporters via Fanatik.
