Despite his talismanic presence at the forefront of the Bayern Munich attack, Robert Lewandowski’s future remains unclear. His contract is up in June 2023, and Manchester United are among the clubs keeping a close watch on the situation.
United aren’t lacking personnel in the attacking department, neither are those who are a part of it lacking in numbers. Despite boasting the combined firepower of Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford, the Red Devils are keeping a watchful eye on the situation revolving around Lewandowski.
As per BILD, the Pole’s Bayern future remains up in the air with no sign of an extension upon his expiring contract yet. The Polish international, who is on track to beat his personal best of 41 league goals in a single season, wants clarity over his future and is being watched closely by Manchester United. At present, there are no ongoing talks between the player and the club, who, along with teammates Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer, will be without a contract next summer.
While he is 33 years of age, Lewandowski is showing no signs of slowing down. The forward scored thrice within 23 minutes of Bayern’s UEFA Champions League Round-of-16 tie against RB Salzburg – a match that they won 7-1 courtesy of Lewandowski’s first-half treble. Domestically and continentally, the Polish marksman has scored 42 goals across all competitions this season, just six shy of his overall tally for the season before and 13 fewer than his all-time seasonal best of 55.
It remains to be seen how Lewandowski fits in at Manchester United. However, the club could find itself in the market for a new forward should Cavani and Rashford decide to look for new opportunities – as Sky Sports reported earlier. Ronaldo, too, remains conflicted over his Manchester United future – say reports- with the team in danger of missing out on Champions League qualification.
